(Bloomberg) -- One of Sweden’s best-performing asset managers is starting a global equity fund, hoping to replicate the success of its Nordic equity investments.

The fund, Scilla Global Equity, will be actively managed and seek to handle volatility better than others with a focus on micro-management of risk. That’s the same methodology that’s used at at its Nordic equity fund Scilla Norden, which is the third best among peers over the past 12 months, according to Morningstar.

The fund will invest in about 300 out of a universe of about 1,600 companies, and can top that up with a 20 percent leverage. It will be managed by Daniel Karlgren and William Sjoberg and has a seed investment of 200 million kronor ($20 million).

“We’re are currently in a market where the dispersion among companies have grown with regards to volatility,” Sjoberg said. “We believe that our strategy to select the companies that offer the best-risk adjusted returns will work even better.”

The Nordic Equity fund had a return of about 3 percent in 2018, outperforming the Nasdaq OMX Nordic 120 Net Total Return Index, which slid 4 percent at a similar risk level.

The team also manages Iris Ranta, which was the best-performing long Swedish bond fund over the past 12 months among funds tracked by Morningstar.

The firm, which was created in 2015, invests on behalf of Swedish pension and insurance companies and has 3.54 billion kronor under management.
